We all know how important word of mouth is for a successful consulting business, meaning that whether you like it or not, YOU are responsible for doing everything in your power to ensure you receive glowing reviews – for you, your work and your work ethic.

In established grant writer-client relationships, whether for individual projects or for long-term contracts, there are several key areas to be mindful of and to invest time in developing satisfied customers who will hopefully use your services again and recommend your services to others.

Sometimes we just need a few reminders:

ALWAYS…

Keep your attitude in check even when the client is driving you crazy. You’ll be glad in the long run that you’ve kept your cool. You’ll catch more flies with honey…

Be flexible and roll with the punches. Just when you think you’re on course your client thinks otherwise, so keep your work fluid.

If a problem arises with the project you’re pursuing, be ready to offer alternative solutions.

Keep your clients informed with a reporting system that works for both of you. Lack of communication is a client killer.

Account for your time honestly and accurately.

Follow through on your promises.

Disclose any conflicts of interest upfront.

Be sure to let clients know how thankful you are for their business and trust in you.

EASY, right? Ahhhh….hang in there and keep them coming back for more!
