Make Your Work Like Summer Camp!

Email Print PDF
I’m working this week on a couple of grant consulting proposals for potential clients that I’m excited about. One proposal is for a guy who had a passion for kids, followed his heart and now offers programs in the inner city for at-risk youth. He was telling me this week about their summer day camp which is a ten-week camp for kids ages 7-15. While there is some work on the part of the kids (tutoring sessions, job exploration and community service,) they are rewarded each week with exciting, fun field trips. Their tenth week concludes with an overnight camping trip in the North Georgia mountains where the kids can kayak, hike and swim. Sign me up!

I can’t help but think that my job is a lot like that camp. Sure, I have to do the things I’m “supposed” to do like organizing my current grant applications into appropriate filing systems and making sure that I have enough cartridge ink in my printer (a bane to my existence!) But I’m rewarded on a daily basis with the fact that my job helps people and that I get to work from home. My “field trips” include speaking engagements, lunches with clients at fun places and the satisfaction of getting to do what I love every day.

Does what you do make you happy? I sure hope so – life is too short! I found this link that made me smile from the folks at Life is Good – enjoy. http://www.lifeisgood.com/about/inspiring-letters.aspx
