Your Grant Authority

Cammie

100_0973I actually thought about it when she first came home.  Norm had picked her up on Christmas Eve at only five weeks old so she could be in our house Christmas morning for my 6 year old step-daughter, Chelsea. But I put the thought away as fast as I could because I knew it would be a while before there would be any need for worry.

The Birth of a New Addition

betsybook“What Does Your Grant Authority Have to do with Nonprofit Consulting?”

In light of my recent posts, emails and training offerings, you may be asking yourself that very question right now.  And it’s a fair one.  So, please allow me to share a little history with you as well as an explanation.

The Mac-Mama of Social Media: Discuss

Amber Mac

So, I was on a (free) teleconference call this week with social media maven Amber Mac. I point out that the call was free because Amber is paid BIG bucks for her services and while I would consider myself to make a comfortable living, paying one-on-one for Amber Mac is not in the Baker budget.

First Thoughts

This is it…my first ever blog on this brand spanking new website. I hope that you’ll find my tips and tricks useful in raising money for your organization. Just please bear with me as I find my way in the blogosphere!

In writing a first blog here, I want to start with the basics of grant writing. Don’t think you have to consider yourself a “writer” to be able to write grants. Even though you may never have written a formal grant application in your career, it’s a safe bet you have written a request at some point in your life and received compensation for that effort. Think about it… have you written a letter for someone to sponsor you in a charity walk-a-thon? Been away at college and had to text Mom or Dad for some extra cash making a pitiful plea for help? Emailed a local business to donate snacks for the school library fundraiser? Well, my friend, that’s a start! A grant request is simply asking for money to support a cause.

Keep checking in. My goal is to help you become the grant writer you were meant to be.
